The dreaded day has come for me to clean my brushes, because like most women I am constantly putting it off. It consumes so much time, but it has to be done. So I thought I would turn it into something productive and share with you my tips and tricks when it comes to cleaning my many makeup brushes.

All you need is: A small amount of olive oil in a bowl, some shampoo, a bowl of warm water, a towel and some kitchen roll.

Begin by placing your brush into the shampoo and dabbing it very lightly into the olive oil, so as not to get too much of it on your brush. I’ve learnt the hard way, if you put too much olive oil on your brush you will spend days trying to remove it! Then just swirl you brush around the water and clean it against your hand to remove all the old makeup, and it will probably shock you when you see the amount that washes off. Make sure you only put the brush in the water just above the bristles, because if you put it above the steel holding the bristles to the brush, you will damage the glue holding it in place and your brush will shed. Then take your towel and roll up one of the sides and tilt your brush downwards so the water will run into the towel and not up into the brush, also preventing damage.

Once you’ve cleaned all your brushes and placed them as above, take your kitchen roll and wipe off the excess water on the brushes so they will dry faster. And voila, leave them overnight to dry and they’ll be squeaky clean to use the next day. Hopefully this has helped you gain the courage to clean your own brushes, and some tips to make it that little bit easier.
