I must admit I’m very excited to finally be reviewing these products as they were launched in the States quite some time ago, yet they were somehow only released here this week so of course when I saw them I had to give them a whirl. Many beauty gurus have been raving about these lip products by Maybelline, which are the Colour Elixir Lip Lacquers and the Colour Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils.
They definitely took their time making their way across the pond but I have to admit they were worth the wait.
I only grabbed 3 of them to start with because theres nothing worse then buying the whole collection out of excitement and you don’t actually like them, so of course I started off with nude shades to begin with. Although I will definitely be going back for more! They have a great great colour selection with both products, each ranging from nudes and oranges to deep wine shades for fall. The ‘drugstore’ has definitely been stepping up their game as of late. I am personally not a fan of lip glosses which is why I only got the one Elixir to review, but I have to say it pleasantly surprised me with its consistency and pigmentation. The average lip gloss is very opaque and sticky but this really is a great lip lacquer that just glides on the lips and can be used by itself for daytime wear, or over a lipstick for evening glam. I would give these Colour Elixir’s an 8/10.
However, I think I slightly prefer the Velvet Lip Pencils that little bit more as they are a newer type product on the market. We’ve all seen the lip crayons and balms, but I haven’t seen any jumbo lip pencils such as these that are matte like a lipstick yet moisturising, and the applicator is insanely easy. Don’t make the same mistake as me and initially apply it directly to the lips as they are quite dry with the first application, but if you apply some lip balm it will apply like butter over your lips with intense pigmentation. The nude is a very mature nude not like the foundation lip look (although it appears like a light pink in my swatch below), and the pink is a nice rich fuchsia pink and a lot more wearable than a bubblegum pink. The only critique I would have with this product is that it does not leave the lip stained as I like the colour to last as long as possible, however that may be a bonus to some people. This product would also get an 8/10 from me. Here is a swatch of each product, with and without flash to show the true colours.
Hopefully these products have launched in your area, or you may be sick of these if they’ve been around awhile where you live, nonetheless everyone will always have a different opinion on them. Let me know what you think of them, and hopefully this has helped you decide on whether or not you should give them a go! Enjoy ♡
